This was posted in another thread and I thought it would fit here as well.
A fine site with great information.
Thanks to Todd Morris for the link...

Interesting! This is one of my new collection interest. I just found 2 this past weekend (had to buy the bag of crappy buttons to get to them) :tounge_sm

        Re: Calico Buttons

        Great reference. Glass and ceramic.

Here are some loose translations for the card. From my Down-East North Carolina French…

        Patent…
        Lentille… lens
        Blanes…
        Rouge plein …
        Noirs… black
        Biseau… bevel
        Perles… bead
        Cuvette… basin
        Bourrelets…pads
        2 Trous … 2 hole
Minerals… mineral, to mimic stone I guess...
        Band de Coul …
        Imprimes… print
        Fil coul… wire (?)

        The 2 hole, numbers 14, 16, 18 ,20, 22, 24, 26, 28 are; well, channel or deep channel buttons.

          Re: Calico Buttons

This is very interesting site and a topic I'd love to know more about.(OH NO not another project :tounge_sm

I had a chance to visit with Lindy Miller a couple of years ago, this June.
Quite by accident, actually. I was vacationing with my sister in Northern California. The small Historical town of Columbia is one of my favorite places so we made that one of our stops.

Lindy and her husband Jim operate two of the "shops" in the town, which is CA State Historical Park. Lindy has the Dress Shop and Jim runs the Carpenters Shop.
I knew of Lindy and her Calico buttons, and when I saw them in the Shop....things clicked! I did buy several cards, both of her reproduction buttons. Someday I'll use them on just the right garment. :wink_smil

I understood from information on one of the forums last winter that Lindy was on "leave" and not making buttons at the present.

Do you know if she is again making them?

If any one finds themselves in Northern California...don't pass up a trip to the Gold Country..Columbia, Placerville, Jamestown, Senora.... :thumbs_up All of this about 3hrs. East of the Bay Area and worth an extra day trip (or 2 or 3)

          Regards

This is for the buttons only, I have no knowlege of the authenticity of thier other goods.

YES...these are the folks in Columbia, Ca.
When I visisted her she was working on another dress patter, and showed me her prototype. Probably the one she speaks of on the web site. I had trouble opening her photos....

Although I've not tried her patterns, she is documenting and working very carefully on her latest pattern, so I would not hesitate to use one. They are all documented from an original dress in her collection.

I hope she soon gets back to painting more buttons!!

                Re: Calico Buttons

I too am happy to own some of Lindy's buttons and the Isabella's workdress pattern. I was very impressed with the research and workmanship on both. Unfortunately, even though Lindy's web site is still up, you may find out that she is not making buttons now. As I understand it, Lindy and her husband took on another store and have devoted their time to that. I was looking forward to Lindy's second pattern being produced when they decided not to sell buttons, and aparently patterns, any more.

I am so sorry, I did not know they were not available.
