Hello everyone,
During the weekend of March 28-30, a group named the Western Federal Blues will reenact the Charleston Illinois Riot on the original site. This is a big celebration that involves both scholarly presentations as well as reenactments of the events of March 1864. Some of the regular participants of the Independence Village events are involved in the reenactment, and a few of us are holding a small, private immersion event at "Indy" to run alongside the larger event. I should make it clear that although we will be helping out in whatever way the event organizers would like us to, we're not involved in the planning of the main event. For registration information and guidelines, please go to their event web site : http://www.charlestonillinoisriot.org/
Our smaller "carpe eventum" style gathering will take place in a collection of pre-Civil War log houses. In the mornings and evenings, we'll be living our daily lives and talking about the events in Charleston. Independence Village is about 20 miles, roughly 30 minutes from Charleston. We'll be traveling back and forth between Charleston and the village. All village activities will be in strict immersion style (no modern talk, no modern objects) and will carry forward our impressions and personas from the Charleston event. We're renting two of the historic cabins in the village, so a small rental fee is involved.
If you would like to participate in the Charleston Riot event, please contact their event organizers. If you're interested in staying in the village, please get in touch with me or Rod Miller as soon as possible.
Thanks!
