  • Civilian Events 2015 and 2016

What sort of civilian events are out on the horizon for the rest of this year and next year? I'd like folks to post some that they know of or will be involved in. There will be a civilian contingent at the Garrisoning New Madrid event that I am organizing for the first weekend of Oct. and we will be having our immersion civilian event at Independence Village in Illinois on Columbus Day weekend.

Let's hear what else is in the works.

Re: Civilian Events 2015 and 2016

We've re-scheduled "Tripping Along the Towpath" for the last weekend (29-31) in May 2015. There is still time to get in on this event if you hurry.

Join us for a unique first person event. Our goal is to bring the towpath of the C&O Canal to life through first person encounters with fellow participants. The target is late May 1859.
Participants will develop first person personae appropriate to the area, with business to travel the towpath and visit the lock-house. When fellow participants are encountered, let the first person interaction begin.

We have a limited opportunity to portray those staying at the lock-house and lots of opportunity to portray those sleeping where they fall at Hiker/Biker Campsites along the towpath. Day-trippers are also welcome, with a firm understanding that they are “live” from the moment they arrive.
Children are welcome under the direction and supervision of parent or guardian.
Lock-House #25 at Edwards Ferry near Poolsville, Maryland is the congregation point.

Fee is $26.00 for the weekend for adults, $12.00 for a single day for adults. Does not include food. Children 14 and under are free with an adult registration.

We have a yahoo group and FaceBook group for pre-event planning.

Registration is... drop me, Elaine "Wolfie" Kessinger a line saying you'd like to come and your contact info, we'll have a chat about who you are and what you'd like to do. Chat, Commit, Pay Up, Show Up. It's that simple.

Folks can also check out this event:

      After the Storm: Hopewell 1865

This is a semi-immersion civilian event held at Hopewell Furnace NPS in Elverson, PA. The event is the most recent in the series that we started five years ago with 1859 and have followed through to 1865. We will focus on life in the village in May 1865 as soldiers start to come home, and the war draws to an end.

      Take care,

The SCAR civilians will be hosting an event in Washington, Arkansas in June 2015, around about the same time frame as Red River. Not sure on the dates yet, but I do know they plan on hosting some various schools to teach period skills. Bev Simpson is the point of contact.

Re: Civilian Events 2015 and 2016

I'm planning three events this year.

As Tom mentioned above - After the Storm: Hopewell 1865 - http://hopewell.mainecav.org/ May 1-3, 2015. This is an annual event and I anticipate we will also do it in 2016.

To the Top of the Mountain - Mt. Mansfield. Stowe, VT - August 21-23, 2015 - we are renting a house in Stowe, VT and taking a period outing to the top of Mt.Mansfield. Hiking, picnicking, etc.

Welbourne 1865 - October 23-25, 2015, Middleburg, VA - we rent out the B&B/plantation house and portray the everyday life of the Dulany family and friends. There is a waiting list for space this year, but day tripping is very appropriate.

If you are interested in any of these events, please email me at snowcraig@ymail.com.

          Thanks!

These all sound really good. Please keep updating posts in this folder so folks can stay on top of what is available out there. I think that the civilian part of the hobby needs to communicate more as a whole to get the most bang for our buck.

It also never hurts to turn in a synopsis of the event to the moderating staff and request a separate folder for authentic civilian events.

Any new events for later this year or going into 2016? Today, I added the Civilian Events that have been discussed so far to the main calendar: http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/forum/calendar.php.
