  • Advertisements from the Period

First up is a catalogue for men's, boys', and misses' HATS and CAPS.

    https://archive.org/details/mooresealybroswh0000moor

Please understand that several of the styles, when worn by adult men, are for uber-fashionable sportswear rather than the everyday hat of workman or businessman.
Wool hats for "misses" are for children or at most early teens. Women and older teens would be using a milliner rather than hatter for their needs.

    Enjoy the research. :-)

There are no prices listed though. Elaine, so you know what a hat would have costed in that time? It is really neat to see this.

The lack of prices is likely so the same catalog can serve for both private sale and wholesale. Check newspaper advertisements and store ledger records for pricing.

This is great. I've got a period hardware and rubber goods catalog saved in my google library. I'll find the links. The stuff available in the hardware catalog will blow your mind.

I just noticed the Natty Bompoo. I wonder if that is a Leatherstocking Tales reference.
