  • Shoe Laces

I know that briefly it was mentioned in the military section that ribbon may have been used on civilian shoes as laces. Does anyone have any sources or documentation that would lead me in the proper direction about this?

    Thanks Again,

I haven't done research on shoes and the book by Nancy Rexford may have information on the type of laces used.

In _Historic Accounts_ I found several mentions of silk shoe laces as well a "shoe laces." A great many ribbons were mentioned but none in relation to shoes. The cost of silk shoe laces ranged from 4 cents to 10 cents per pair and regular shoe laces cost from 3 cents to 5 cents per pair.

I would expect that ribbons may have been used on fancy shoes but it doesn't seem that just plain ribbon would have held up on utilitarian shoes.
