• Food Preservation Article

There's an excellent new article up from Virginia Mescher in the Virginia's Veranda section of the website:

It's the current offering, titled "In a Pickle"... the article is in PDF format, and so will take a few moments to load after you click it, especially if you're not on high-speed service, but the wait is worth it. Just don't get nervous and assume something went wrong.

Highly recommend the read--it dovetails well with several past discussions here. I'm a big fan of the Mescher's research and work. They're great assets to the progression of knowledge here in the hobby! This particular article will be useful to both military and the citizenry... it's common knowledge of the day that isn't so common today.
Regards,
Elizabeth Clark

Re: Food Preservation Article

Excellent article, I've been looking for a good description of the jars (but especially the cans) for some time and the pictures are really helpful...some of the sources in the bibliography look very good for further research too!
Thanks!

Yet my heart will startling beat with each footfall at my door.
I gaze o'er the hill where he waved his last adieu,
But no gallant lad I see in his faded coat of blue.
