  • KY Inn/Trial Event Aug. 2007

    Where: Fort Hill, Frankfort, Kentucky.
    Date: August 10-12, 2007
    Overall Organizer: Linda Trent
Event Type: EBUFU – Civilian Immersion – strict 24/7 first person action/interaction event – non-spectator event.
    Event website: cw186165.homestead.com/TrialIndex.html

Needed for this event: A good mix of civilians, both male and female, of all social and economic status – this is a non-military event. The more men the merrier, as we can always use witnesses and a jury.

This event will be held in a inn that has been set up by Nicky Hughes (excellent material culture!). We will be running the inn again as we did last year – the staff will be working their behinds off not only dealing with the guests, but also with having to work around the court. There will be three full meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, that will be prepared and served by the inn staff; the court will recess around the meals.

The court will be run just like a court in the 1860s. We will have a real 21st century lawyer (Rob Carter) who will portray our judge, we also have a defense team (defendant and lawyer), and prosecution. Currently we have the Kentucky State Statutes for 1852, and need to see if there were any more recent updates to 1864. We will also be working with actual cases to see how similar trials were actually run. While this will not represent any actual trial or crime, it will be based loosely upon similar ones that we find. The reason we are not basing it on any actual crime is because we don’t want to have a closed ending. The attorneys will argue their cases and the judge will make a decision based upon the evidence presented during the weekend. The entire weekend will run in real time.

There is one common room available, plus hallways, and the tap room for sleeping. Those who stay in the inn will receive full service from the staff. There are also a few cabins on the grounds that can also be used. People who stay in the cabins will have to make their own beds, empty their own chamber pots, etc. Meals will also be served to the people in the cabins.

For more info contact me at the following address. If you regretted missing SFS or The Inn at Peak's Mill -- this is the event for you!

    Thanks,

    Linda

We can still use a few good men for jurors and/or other roles. For more information please contact Linda Trent at lindatrent@zoomnet.net

Unfortunately, we've had a few gentlemen who've had to withdraw from this event. If anyone is interested particularly in the roles of juror or witness to the crime, please let me know. The event rules and standards can be seen at the following link.

This will be a murder trial, based upon the pre-trial event that was held in March at Brown's Stand. We will have a real lawyer portraying our judge (Rob Carter), we also have a defense team (Matt Rector and Brian Pennington our defendants and Hank as our defense lawyer), and prosecution (Mark Hintzen), we also have witnesses, but can use any additional men for jury duty, or other positions.

This event is running in real time and we've already had the murder, the sheriff was notified, and has done his investigation, and he's turned over his information to the prosecutor. The prosecutor has been asking questions of the witnesses and is completing his interviews, and will hopefully be deciding whether there's enough evidence to continue and if so what the actual charges will be. At that time the defense will begin working on their strategy, so I need to close this event within the next two weeks.

If you wish to be a part of this, please contact me A.S.A.P. or sooner. The long and short of this is, if the event goes off as well as everything else, this promises to be another good one that I'd rank up there with SFS and Inn at Peak's Mill!

          Call for witnesses and jurors

          Hi Guys,

Just to let you know, we can still use another witness or two, and although we have a small (but legal) size jury, we can always use more jurors. Again, the date of this event is August 10-12 -- at Fort Hill in Frankfort, Ky.

I need committed people for these positions, and the more witnesses and jurors we can get the better. Witnesses can be male or female.

Here is the homepage of the event with rules and guidelines.

Please contact me ASAP, if you're interested, absolute latest I'll accept new people is July 10.

          Thanks,

          Linda

            Linda,

The Ft. Wayne event that was to be the same weekend was just cancelled and it was to be a GHTI max effort event. Now that it is off the schedule it may be possible to convince a few of them to come for the trial.

            GHTI
            42nd Indiana Inf.

Across the Ohio we could see “Old Indiana.” This made the boys home sick. How they did want to cross the river into “God's Country.” James B. Shaw, 10th Indiana Inf.

Yep, and as Matt said if you can arrive just a little early we can clear out the inn of people and role play what you supposedly witnessed. Like Trish and myself, when you actually role play it it makes it easier to remember the details on the witness stand.

Event go time will actually be 7:00 PM Friday, though anyone arriving later can certainly still come in. I have a feeling that people probably just wandered in whenever they arrived back then. Though if Nicky still locks the gates at night we'll need to know of your ETA so he'll know what time to lock up.

Everybody is encouraged to get a big meal before arriving on Friday as there will be "leftovers" on the table from the evening meal, but no scheduled meal will be served.

Three full meals will be served on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday.

I'd like to end the event between 11 AM and 12 noon on Sunday in order to allow for some of the participants to start their long drives home. With Nicolette dropping out due to military committments, I wonder who's coming the furthest for this one? Anyone coming further than New Jersey?

                Linda.
