  • Let the good times roll!

Ok, so we have lost some good information over the last two years, so let’s go on and forge ahead. Discussions that come the forefront of my mind (special interests I admit) are Soap Making, Jerked Beef, Fire Roasting techniques, Weaving, Period Medicine and Folk Healing Remedies. We are two years more mature in our research and experience, so let’s go for it again. I’ll start this discussion with Soap Making.

I make Cold Processed Lye Soap; a process that was developed by a French Chemist in the late 1840’s. This process revolutionized Soap Making in Europe and the US for it made quality soap available to the middle class. This is a Soap that would have been purchased by civilians from the local Chandler, Dry Goods Merchant or Drugist and was also commissioned by both the CSA and the Union from local factories and issued to troops. It was also imported from Europe by the CSA and by Southern Merchants.

By the same token, I would also like to discuss the virtues of Hot Processed Lye Soap, it’s uses and distribution within the troops of both sides.

Let’s talk about applications for both, period ingredients, etc.
