    All ~

I am looking for a contact who could give me some contact info. in regards to participating as a civilian at the Prairie Grove event in December. I spoke with someone on this site several months ago about this but since the wipe out of all those posts and PM's I have no way to retrieve who this might have been - but I know it was a gentleman from Bella Vista!
If you have any information on whom I might contact please let me know - I have tried contacting the park directly but that was, as I knew it would be, fruitless.

    Thanks in Advance

Jennifer, I googled Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park; this is the contact page with phone numbers for the site, if it's the one you're wanting:

Clicking on the EVENTS/PROGRAMS link gives a CW event in early December, with an email for questions. I'd go right to the source with the historic site, and let them get you in touch with the citizen's coordinator.
    Regards,

      Jennifer,
I may be in the mood for a little civilian action at Prairie Grove... Let me know what you find out and I will try to figure it out from my previous military knowledge who to contact civilian wise.

Thanks for the link! I did contact the park and they are supposed to be getting me a list of registered units that I might fall in with - I just thought I could expedite the process if I found someone on here that was going that I could join up with. Hopefully I will hear something.

Wow--I wasn't aware of any history-heavy events that still require group registrations. I thought they'd pretty much all gone to individual registration, particularly with the citizen's wing of things. I'll bet it would make the site coordinator's job a lot easier to have individual registration with direct headcounts... I always hate trying to coordinate logistics with second-hand headcounts!

Hope you're able to make contact with whomever is organizing the citizen activities. The site looks very nice.

Yes I have heard the same from others about the difficulty of getting registered as a civilian at some of these events - and how it really should be a non-issue. Here is the response I got from the park though (just FYI)

            Jennifer,

I have attached the reenactment info. However, individuals are not accepted to participate. You will need to belong to an invited group or find one that will let you fall in with them. We don’t yet have a list of accepted groups but can send you a few contacts once we get some.
(This was from the assistant program coordinator)

If you have any advice on how I might stress/relay to them the importance of authentic civilian participation in these events - please share :)

Warning -- no elitism or slander is intended in this post.

That would be because Prairie Grove is NOT a "history heavy" event. It is one of the larger mainstream efforts in the Eastern Trans-Miss region. There are usually at least one or two contingents of cph'ers on the military side, but I have never heard of any effort to get the far-flung individual civilians to particpate in any numbers.
