  • First Person Interpretation Class

    Carriage Hill Living History Farm, in Dayton, Ohio, will be hosting a first person interpretation class, from January 16th through February 13. This five-week long training course will explain the different types of interpretation used today, the goals of interpretation, and will then delve deeper into first-person interpretation itself. In addition to that, background information and education on 19th century life(1860s-1890s) will be provided. The following is an outline of the subjects that will be covered:

    Classes:

    Introduction to first person interpretation: A History of First Person, How it is used, Freeman Tilden’s Six Principles of Interpretation and Developing a persona.
    Keeping Your Interpretation Real: Researching the 19th Century: Using Primary Sources to Provide Depth. In addition to this, an overview of life in Ohio in the 19th century will be provided.
    Etiquette, Courtship and Parlor Games: Also, breaking the ice and using non-verbal interpretation.
    Fashions and Music of the Period: Also, using vocal techniques in interpretation.
    Period Tea Party. Class members will attend a period tea party in character.

    Dates: Tuesday evenings, 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Carriage Hill Visitor Center. January 16-February 13, 2007

    $35 fee for materials and course book. plus 50 hours of volunteer service to be completed by Dec. 15, 2007.

    Drat! If this were on the weekends, I'd be there in a heartbeat (too far to drive in Winter weather from Columbus). Any chance of this happening?
