    That is neat. The George Root of the hymnal is, of course, the Root of the "Battle Cry of Freedom," "Just Before the Battle Mother," and other songs composed and published by Root and Cady. I suspect the name had a lot to do with the price, since church songbooks of that age really aren't that pricey ordinarily. George Root's postwar career saw continued success as a gospel hymn writer and publisher. He was a good friend of P.P Bliss and Horatio Spafford (the hymn writers who gave us "Abide with Me.") Just last Sunday, our organist regaled us with "The Lord is in His holy Temple," a lovely little call to worship by Geo. Root. And, of course, the popularity of "Tramp,Tramp, Tramp" allowed him to recycle the tune after the war, and give us an enduring Sunday School jingle: "Jesus Loves the Little Children."
