Described as "Whig's Defeat" pattern overshot coverlet. Beautifully woven.

Please, nobody take this into the field!

    Re: Original Coverlet

    :D Mrs. B,

I know the buyer. Fact of the matter is, we're planning on doing a shirt dyeing here pretty soon.

I think I know what promise I'll extract as part of my pay.

Either that, or I see him often enough, I can just beat him with the dye fork if I see said coverlid in the field.

      Ms. Terre,

I won't bring it in the field. I was actually suprised I got it for that price. I will gladly bring it to show you. I really just wanted to own an original one, especially with that pattern. I have 4 FHW repops and this will be nice to have around. Looking forward to getting it.

Tim, I'm so glad this beauty ended up in appreciative hands.

Mrs. L., I honestly do believe you would make swift use of that dye fork if you ever saw such a fine thing being abused:wink_smil I'm looking forward to an AAR of the shirt dyeing. Happy After Taxes Day!

                  Edward,

Sorry!:cry_smile I really didn't think it would go for that. I didn't bid that much. It will go nice with the few original things I have from that time period.

                    Now fellers, y'all played nice.

Sometimes, when we recognize the few players on the bids as folks we know, we pick up the phone and see who is just dying to have it, and who is just along for the ride--and stand back and let the just dying one get it.

Now occassionally, a snipe bid will pull the rug out from under all of us, but sometimes this works. And all the rest of us get to look at the lovely thing.

I bid as well ($26.03). I left work thinking I would make it home before the auction ended. I figured someone else would beat me to the punch. Congratulations on the coverlett.

                        Re: Original Coverlet

Just to update you all. The coverlet showed up over the weekend. Had a little time to look at it. My wife had twins on Friday so we have been VERY busy. It is a very nice coverlet but nothing anyone would take to the field. Great for the collector. Lots of holes and thin spots but still in great condition. May look into have it repoped.

Ms. Terre, I will bring it along to show you when I come up.

If anyone is going to Vicksburg, I will bring it along, TO SHOW.
