    Miz, Terre I did that brilliant one all by myself with no help. I'm just waiting on that famous spectator question we all know and adore. "Now, how did you decide where to put those patches." :D My answer will be, "Well, that was a real though one. I couldn't really decide on good spots, so I put my backside to the fire, flicked in my skirt and let it decide for me.";)

      :::WARNING:::
      There was a discussion on this on The Sewing Academy. While some people who bought the silk from Fashion Fabrics Club said it was very tightly woven which made it waterproof, others who got different batches said it had a very tacky, chemical feel to it.

      Just try to make sure which one you're getting first :)

        Chessa,

        I'm thinking that may fade quickly with use----when first pulled out, this garmet did have an oily feel to it.

        We got 4 inches of rain on Tuesday, most of which I was out paddling in. Rain continued on Wednesday in an absolute deluge. When the garment dried late in the week, it was rustly sounding, but no longer oily feeling.

        A similar deluge hit us at Selma--water proofing held nicely.

        I'm thinking the oily/tacky feel will fade as folks put these garments to use. And I note that it did not rub or seep onto other garmets packed with it.

            Aha! That is why we in the west wait and buy from traveling drummers who sell only the best goods, and give refunds if you're not happy with your purchase.:D

              Here is the discussion on the Sewing Academy for anyone who is interested: http://thesewingacademy.org/index.php?topic=568.0

              Mrs. Lawson - which color did you use? Different colors seem to have a different feel.

                Elizabeth,

                My coat was made using the black---who knows if there was more than one run even of the black at play here.

                For the brave at heart, or those willing to venture---put a yard through your version of a driving rainstorm, with repeated applications of a garden hose at full speed, and repeated drying. Mine has now been been paddling through two events with rain in excess of 4 inches, and another with a mild rain---still water resistant, still looks very appropriate, and is less rustley sounding than it was at the inception.

                Carol Ann's sewing commentary on Elizabeth's site is quite appropriate--the item definitely did benefit from lining. In one of the many 'get to it' jobs on the list, I intend to weight the bottom front hem just a bit more.
