Re: CW "Press" badge photos
the hing portion of the badge looks very similar to some jewelry pieces purchased for & by my wife that are from the 1840's & 60's. intresting item to say the least, were news men of the time known as "the press" back then?...steve hutton

Re: CW "Press" badge photos
I haven't been at it all that long but I currently reenact an Army Correspondent during the war. In the process of researching this portrayal, I've looked at a lot of the secondary sources (The Bohemian Brigade, The North Reports the War, etc) as well as the memoirs of Charles Carleton Coffin (who is the basis for my own portrayal) and some other correspondents.
I've never come across a reference to a "Press" badge. That doesn't mean it didn't exist obviously, but if they were at all common, I would think that I would have come across a mention of them. Sounds to me like E-Bay is at it again. But I will ask the other Bohemians if they have ever heard of this.

Re: CW "Press" badge photos
Its not on Ebay. I found it on an auction site: Heritage Auction Galleries. I was bidding on a lorenz musket tool value of $40 that sold for $107!! As a side note on Ebay and other sites you see a WESTERN & ATLANTIC CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA RR BADGE. Read nice write up on these fakes on a RR collector site. These badges never existed but are popular because of the Andrews Raid interest. Jim HensleyJim Hensley
