Having searched the forums with no luck in finding ready-made answers to my question, I have thrown caution to the wind to post it.
I am hoping to add a decent civilian sack coat to my impression and have chosen to make it myself of satinette. I have my Homespun Patterns civilian sack coat pattern and have thought of a few questions for the learned members of this forum.
First, my pattern shows sleeve cuffs that are buttoned (I am sure there is a more correct tailoring term for it, but that's the functional wording my mind came up with). Was this common/prevalent? The same question goes for the option for a vented back.
Second, I am considering making cloth-covered buttons for this coat, with hard rubber or plain brass buttons also in the running. I have seen them mentioned across the forum, but have never seen any sort of instructions on how to make them. Perhaps I am making a mountain out of a molehill, but is there a "proper" button to start with as a "form" when making them? Also, is it as simple as cutting out a circle of fabric, wrapping the edges around the back of the button and sewing the edges together?
