Mark your calendars now, the 2008 Midwest Civil War Civilian Conference is Jan 25-27, 2008. This year it is once again going to be in Joliet, Illinois and the hotel is right off the interstate so it's easy to get to. Either from driving or flying.
There is a great line-up of speakers. Here's a brief recap of the topics: Religion in the Civil War, Period Lighting, Children's Clothing, Ladies Head Wear, Victorian Camping Trips, Mourning Customs, and Favorite Sites to Start Researching.
And let's not forget the amazing workshops that are scheduled: Suzy Beggin has graciously agreed to teach people how to knit! Yeah, hooray for us non-knitters! And there is going to be a CDV workshop with a panel of experts closely examining period CDVS and pointing out details that the beginner might miss, and how we can use that info to improve our impressions.
Registration packages include a nice meal allowance, juried vendor shopping, a period-clothing welcome reception, a show and tell of period items, and a definite history-heavy learning experience.
Visit the website for registration, price details, schedule, and other pertinent information. www.midwestcwcivilian.com
Also the website has great past conference recaps to read and view to see what past conference were like.
I for one will be there, and I hope to see bunches of you there as well. =)
