This may not belong here but i've tried the search engine with no results. Could someone steer me to sources on Civilian sack coat trim? Would it have been Worsted or maybe wool twill? How wide? Thanks guys for your time. Clifford Earl Hyde

Re: Sack Coat Trim
I've seen several original specimens of a variety of materials including linen, wool, and cotton, and those that were trimmed were trimmed in everything from silk tape, worsted wool trim, wool piping, and something I believe was velvet. I'm aware of no "rules", but I am sure that whatever was used to trim a coat, it would need to be something with a similiar shrinkage rate as the rest of the coat. I would also recommend looking at period images from books like "Who Wore What" and "Dressed for the Photographer" for a good idea of what was being used.Ross L. Lamoreaux

Re: Sack Coat Trim
You'll have to excuse my comment about ''this not belonging here",i forgot where i was. DUH,this is after all the ''CITIZENS AUTHENTICITY DISCUSSION". Thank you for your suggestions Mr. Lamoreaux. By the way, have you seen or read about the collection of the Steamboat Bertrand? I once read an article that gave some discriptions but did not recall all of it. I had seen on some vendor's site where they offered "Wool Twill tape". Well thanks again. Regards,Clifford Earl Hyde
