  • Bone Crochet Hooks

I am looking for a better source for very small bone crochet hooks. I need the smallest gauges to pick up stitches in sock knitting: Metric 2.00-2.75mm; US A, B or C; UK 14, 13, 12, 11.

Is anyone making quality reproduction bone crochet hooks in the above sizes?

I have purchased antique hooks off eBay, but sellers don't always list or know the correct sizes. Also, I am leary of putting these beautiful antiques through such constant service.

Through a Google search I found the Lacis site (scroll way down to see the bone hooks).

I can't tell much about the hooks by the photos. Does anyone have any experience with Lacis' products and customer service?

    Thank you,

    Thank you,
I haven't used the bone hooks from Lacis but I have used their bone knitting needles and the knitting needles are wonderful. The service of Lacis is great and I have dealt with them for years with no problem. If you are ever in Berkley, CA it is worth the trip to their store and museum.

As for small crochet hooks, they did have steel hooks and for really small work, I just use vintage steel crochet hooks that I have purchased on ebay. I'm not much of a crocheter and don't usually use the hooks in a living history situation. I do more knitting and sometimes do have the occasion to use a crochet hook and will either use a bone one from ebay purchases or a vintage steel one.

      Mrs. Mescher,

Thank you for your advice, both on this and my "JKL" post. Your recommendation is enough for me; I will order from Lacis.

Your excellent research and well-written articles have been invaluable to me in recreating period knitting for my husband and others in the hobby.

      Best wishes,

Well, I can say that several of my friends shop Lacis, all are happy with the products they buy their, at least, I've never heard anything bad. I'd suggest that you give them a try, they are praised quite highly, and their books are first rate. Myself, I need another set of bone needles too, so I suppose I should order some before the holidays......I knit and crochet more than usual in the winter.:D
