Hello all,
I thought some folks on this forum would be interested in attending a living history event recreating the 1847 arrival of President James K. Polk's arrival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The event is sponsored by the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill and hosted by the Citizens of the Old North State, http://www.citizensoftheoldnorthstate.com/
The date of the event is May 3, 2008 and consists of 1840s preparations for the arrival of the president. After his entrance, we'll hold some dancing demonstrations/domestic skill demonstrations. After the site closes we hope to have the reenactors enjoy a private reception with President Polk and his wife in the house.
The event will be held at the Horace Williams house in Chapel Hill. The earliest portion of the house dates to the 1840s and enlarged in 1855 and 1880. If this sounds interesting, and you would like to attend, please send me an email at chpreservation@mindspring.com.
Thanks,
Ernest Dollar
