  • My wife wants to attend C/P/H event

    Citizens...

Has this ever happend to anyone you know that does a military impression?

My wife (who has a small kit at this point-pictured below in one of her dresses at a recent 'streamer event) has been to 3 "carpe eventa" reenactments in the past with me and she has expressed interest, and yes, event downtrodden-ness over the fact that C/P/H events don't generally include citizens impressions.

Well... my question is... is there an event coming-up that my wife can do and a female that could "take her under their wing" because she is new to what we as a subculture do???

Now, I plan to attend Marmaduke's raid- yes, I read the website and there is the "mossback/civilian" impression, but I fear:

    a) Costwise, I won't be able to fly her with me to the event, as we live in CT and that is the only way I'm getting there and

    b) I think from what Mrs. Siddali says it would be a bit of a shock for her first time at a C/P/H event. I mean, she can camp-out modern farby-style, but she has never done it OUR style... ;)

So, bottom-line, I feel this event is out for now for us as a pair, but I hope to attend as a participant by-myself...

But... aside from a living history at a house or village, are there any C/P/H events that have a "secret" civilian presence she might be able to "join-in" with? Ya'll know the deal... something that is not as publicized for civilians to attend, but will have a small group of C/P/H citizen AND soldier impressions attending.

Had I known more about Outpost's civilians, I would have asked if she could have fallen-in with the civilians there.

Anyway, any help or ideas would be much appreciated- no high-impact civilian impressions but no mainstream "beer/battle/ball" garbage either. I want her first impression of what C/P/H is to be a fun and enjoyable one. Most of all, my wife needs a helping-hand to show- her-the-ropes at a quality event.

Mods, please move if you feel the need to do so.

    Thanks- Johnny Lloyd

    Dear Mr. Lloyd,

First off, you are way ahead of the game here--you have what few c/h/p men have--a wife who is actually dressed correctly. Its utterly amazing what some of these boys who pay so much attention to their own uniforms come up with--they take their interested partners shopping and....well. They are at least trying to be good husbands.

And, you are correct in surmising that this is a hobby of relationships. When an event has an 'invitation only' stamp on it, you have written inquiring about an invitation, and then actually received one and registered, you are not out of line to then inquire with command as to whether there are civilian slots for which your wife (attach photo here) may also receive an invitation.

There are some on the upcoming calendar that are 'invitation only', but also have a cabin shelter in the site and outhouse. This does not mean the action might not be just as rough and tumble.

Also worth considering are the various events which are more civilian oriented, and thus have more civilian openings--yes, YOU will have to change clothes, but she will be just fine. Perryville On The Farm's postwar horserace and county fair comes to mind, as well as Jim Bulter's Westville event.. These are the sorts of events where one will meet more civilians and thus make connections in the hobby.

Closer to home for y'all is the Civilian Conference held up in Harrisburg Pennsylvania in early March of each year. This is an ideal venue for her to make connections that are more in your geographic area. Oh, and learn a heck of a lot in a short period of time.

He has more than that - he has a spouse that is passionate about history, a somewhat rare phenomena.

      Great advice Terre!
