  • School Supplies for Freedmen

Can anyone direct me to period pencils, writing slates, and other materials that one would have found in Freedmen's schools? I need a few representative items to illustrate to visitors the kinds of things that would have been donated to the various relief organizations operating in the Mississippi Valley. Also, I am looking for a source for an inexpensive dress like a freedwoman would have recieved via donations from the North. Again, I would like to use it to educate visitors.

    Thanks!
