  • One Man Band

There is a gal who sometimes plays the bones, jawbone, tambo and triangle for me. Even though she is of a low order, dubious character and sometimes wears a "bloomer costume", once in awhile she finds interesting things like this from "Knights of the Green Cloth" by Robert DeArment, University of Oklahoma Press 1982.

The following took place during the Californy gold rush. "The musical entertainment provided by the houses was diverse and in some cases quite unusual. The Verandah across the street from the El Dorado, featured a one-man band, a musical oddity who blew on a set of pipes tied to his chin while beating a drum on his back with sticks tied to his elbows. His hands held cymbals which he crashed frequently, and all the while he kept time by stamping his feet on the floor. What his performace lacked in artistry, it made up for in sheer volume"

Sounds like a good idea for us minstrel banjo players on hot humid days when de ole banjo is so berry hard to play. :- )
