        Re: Recruiting for Co. D

I got a postcard from our old chum Raul Fuentes in Friday's mail. Raul is known among the Ground Hornets and a few other hardy types. Having no internet where he is at it's snail mail or nothing. Looks like he is slipping his parole officer for a weekend in the woods with us in Souteast Missoura. Myself and the other Hornets haven't seen Raul since BGR. Hopefully he'll round up a few of this running mates for the drive down.

Those that come will enjoy the heck out of it. Frank "The Bard of Athens" Aufmuth has put a ton of blood, sweat, and tears into this. It appears that the numbers are growing. That is a fine thing to see.

        Regards,

          Re: Recruiting for Co. D

One of the great regrets of my life is not ever having seen Robert Stumbling Bear, Raul Fuentes, and Uncle Tom Yerby in the same place. Somehow I...nevermind, well, maybe at IPW next year, if they don't materialize as a tripod unit at J. Sappington Marmaduke's.

On a more transitional note, the Google map link provided by Rev. Pompey has been fine and entertaining, and a lot more fun than Mapquest. Not only have some great old wagon roads and railroad lines in and around Patterson, Piedmont, and Beckville Missouri been spotted, but the satellite images at high resolution show the covered boat slips at the marina, as well as a very close up of a scantily clad lass on a pontoon boat headed northbound on the lake. This is a darn fine way to spent a few minutes looking at the intersection of routes MO-AA and 49. Looks like it was chilly that day, too. Can't quite make out the brand of beer in that cooler, either. Darn.

Now, do we take I-64 out to St. Louis or beat old I-81 to I-40....decisions, decisions, maybe I'll haul Stephen Oates "West of the River" book out, so the brave two men riding with me can read up on the battle a little bit. Forgot I had that slim volume until recently. It is a nice read.

I believe that Fred meant to say Juaquin Negras. Raul Fuentez is from my neck of the woods in Fort Hood. He is assigned to the 1st Cav Div. He is riding with me to Missouri.

              Rick,

You may be quite right. I couldn't help but notice Joaguin [alt spelling] had a fine, fine, fine as quartered frog hair post on the Becky thread deep within the ATM communication network. I'd repost it here, but the language is a little too colorful for decent folk, although it suits me just fine.

Rumor has it this will be a Hard Case Boys reunion of sorts, too.

                Re: Recruiting for Co. D

I know Joaquin, Raul and Robert Stumbling Bear. They are well known to the Texas Ground Hornets as onery, trouble making sorts and therefore close to our hearts. They will be at Marmaduke's Raid but knowing there past behavior, the civilians have more to fear from them than the Federals.
